良寛の風景 国上山

国上山には、良寛が四十歳の頃から起居した五合庵がある。良寛はこの庵から、分水町や和島村などへ托鉢に向かったのだろう。八月八日、まだ暑さの残る日だったが、山頂に広がる雲はどこか夏と秋の境目を思わせ、美しかった。この季節にしてはやや早い行き合いの雲かもしれないが、心が和んだ。

新潟の広大な田園地帯では、どこからでも人家の屋根が見えることが多い。しかしこの場所は、遠くの山裾にわずかに集落が見えるだけだ。手前から国上山、弥彦山、角田山の三山が一望できるのも、ここならではの風景である。

Kunikami Mountain is home to the Gogoan Hermitage, where Yoshihiro Yoshihiro resided from the time he was 40 years old. Ryohiro must have passed through here on his almsgiving trips to Bunsui Town, Wajima Village, and other places. Although it was a little early for the clouds to be coming and going as summer and autumn coexist, the clouds spreading over the mountain were beautiful. It was still hot on August 8 when I took this photo. In Niigata, a large countryside area, there are many places where buildings can be seen, but here they are only slightly visible at the foot of the mountains in the distance. From the foreground, one can see Mt. Kunigami, Mt. Yahiko, and Mt.
