冬になると、食べ物に困った鳥たちは、さまざまなものをついばむようになります。野生動物も冬の間、命を繋ぐのが大変な豪雪地の新潟ですが、雪の多い地域では、桜の蕾も餌のひとつとなります。新潟県の雪深い地方では、気温はさほど低くなくても、積雪が多いために桜の花芽まで鳥に食べられてしまうことがあり、春の満開の季節になっても花が少ない年も珍しくありません。

ここ数年は雪の多い年が続き、桜の木々はたびたび鳥たちの餌となってしまい、人間にとっては満開の桜を楽しめない春が続いていました。しかし、今年はようやく桜が見事に咲き誇り、久しぶりに満開の桜を堪能することができました。

妙高山麓のひんやりと澄んだ空気の中、ひとりで撮影していると、これほど気持ちの良い日はないと感じるほど、爽やかな光景が広がっていました。残雪をいただく妙高山には、桜がいちばんよく似合います。

In winter, birds struggling to find food begin to peck at various things. In Niigata, a region known for its heavy snowfall, where wild animals also struggle to survive during the winter, cherry blossom buds become one of the few sources of food in snowy areas. In the snowy regions of Niigata Prefecture, even when temperatures are not particularly low, heavy snowfall can cause cherry blossom buds to be eaten by birds, resulting in years where there are few flowers even during the peak blooming season in spring.

In recent years, with consecutive years of heavy snowfall, cherry trees have frequently become food for birds, leaving humans unable to enjoy the full bloom of cherry blossoms in spring. However, this year, cherry blossoms finally bloomed beautifully, allowing us to once again savor the full bloom of cherry blossoms.

In the cool, clear air at the foot of Myōkō Mountain, as I photographed alone, the refreshing scenery spread out before me, making me feel that there was no better day than this. Myōkō Mountain, still covered in snow, is the perfect backdrop for cherry blossoms.
