妙高山には桜がよく似合う

妙高山を望む広々とした頚城平野には、農業用のため池が点在し、一大穀倉地帯を形成しています。江戸時代から盛んに新田開発が進められ、用水路やため池が数多く築かれました。やがて圃場整備が進み、役目を終えたため池の中には、いまでは地域の憩いの場として親しまれているものもあります。

そのひとつの池のほとりには桜並木が植えられ、春には残雪をいただく妙高連峰を背景に、見事な花を咲かせます。無風の朝、水面には薄く霧が漂い、やがて朝日を浴びてゆったりと揺らぎ始めました。残雪の妙高と池畔の桜が水面に映り込み、頚城平野ならではの春の朝の光景が広がっています。

この場所を発見したときに桜を撮影していた地元の写真愛好家の方は高田公園よりも良い場所だと話していらっしゃいました。いつも通る道から少し脇道にそれるだけでまったく違った風景を発見することができます。

The vast Kubiki Plain, which overlooks Mt. Myoko, is dotted with agricultural reservoirs, forming a major grain-producing area. Since the Edo period, new land development has been actively promoted, and numerous irrigation canals and reservoirs have been constructed. As farmland improvement progressed, some of the reservoirs that had outlived their original purpose have now become popular local recreation spots.

One such pond is lined with cherry trees, which bloom beautifully in spring against the backdrop of the Myōkō mountain range still covered in snow. On a windless morning, a thin mist hovers over the water’s surface, gradually beginning to sway gently as it catches the morning sun. The snow-capped Myōkō mountains and the cherry blossoms along the pond’s edge reflect on the water, creating a unique spring morning scene characteristic of the Kubiki Plain.
