笠島に原風景をつくる

海を望む絶好のロケーションで種を蒔き、花を咲かせる活動を、地域の個人の方が続けていらっしゃいます。地域資源を活かし、開発や防災などによって失われた風景を再び育てていくこの取り組みは、非常に貴重で意義深いものだと感じます。

新潟県内で、海を背景にコスモスが咲き誇る風景は、私の知る限り他に例がありません。海辺でひまわりを植えている場所もありますが、観光を強く意識している印象を受けます。それに対して、この活動は地域を静かに、しかし確かに明るく照らしており、まさに新たな原風景を生み出す試みだと思います。

花や美しい景色を楽しむとき、その背景に何があるのか、また周囲の構造物が景観の魅力を損なっていないかなど、日常生活の中ではなかなか意識しないものです。だからこそ、この場所を見つけたときには、ぜひお話を伺いたいと思いました。規模の大小にかかわらず、自分のできる範囲で考え、行動することの大切さを改めて感じさせられました。この写真では入らないようにフレーミングしていますが、花の背景に電線や電柱が見えてしまうことが少し残念です。しかし花畑はそれに気付いてもらうためのきっかけにもなっています。期せずして景観を考えるための仕掛けにもなっています。

私自身、十数年前から各地の芸術祭の撮影に携わってきましたが、普段めったに訪れることのない場所にそっと光を当て、地域の人々と関わるきっかけを生み出すという点で、この活動と相通じるものがあると感じています。

When enjoying flowers or beautiful scenery, we rarely consciously consider what lies behind them or whether surrounding structures detract from the landscape’s charm. That is why, upon discovering this place, I felt compelled to learn more about it. It has once again made me realize the importance of thinking and acting within one’s capabilities, regardless of scale. In this photo, I framed it so that the power lines and poles behind the flowers are not visible, but it is a bit disappointing that they can be seen. However, the flower field also serves as a trigger to make people aware of them. It has unintentionally become a mechanism for considering the landscape.

Personally, I have been involved in photographing art festivals in various regions for over a decade, and I feel that this activity shares a common thread with my work in that it quietly shines a light on places that are rarely visited and creates opportunities to engage with local communities.
