米山と周囲50キロ

秋、稲刈りが終わった田圃に霧が立ち込め、朝焼けの中でゆったりと波打つ。柏崎側から見る米山と柿崎側から見る米山は似てはいますが少し雰囲気が違います。その理由の一つは光の方向や当たり方にあることがこの写真に表れています。標高はそれほどありませんが、独立峰とその周辺を巡る約50キロの楕円形の円環となっています。自然の高低の差が様々な風景をつくり、海や潟やため池を含めた豊かな水の風景もその一端を形成しています。新潟県内でも恵まれた自然や田園や里山などがコンパクトにまとまっていて風景も含め人にとっても動植物にとっても一つの生態系を成していると言えます。新潟のほかの地域には無い個性を持った地域だと言ってもよい地域だと思います。

In autumn, fog rolls in over the fields where rice harvesting has been completed and waves lazily in the morning glow. Yoneyama seen from the Kashiwazaki side is similar to Yoneyama seen from the Kakizaki side, but the atmosphere is slightly different. One of the reasons for this is the direction of the light and the way it hits the mountain, as shown in this photo. Although not very high in elevation, it is an elliptical circle of about 50 kilometers around an independent peak and its surroundings. The natural differences in elevation create a variety of landscapes, and the abundance of water, including oceans, lagoons, and reservoirs, forms one part of this landscape. The area is also blessed with a compact combination of nature, rice paddies, and satoyama, forming an ecosystem for people, animals, and plants, as well as for the landscape. It is a region with a unique character not found in any other region of Niigata.
