阿賀野川一番の景勝地に残る昭和橋遺構

阿賀野川と並走する旧国道49号線を津川から大牧地区方面へ車で5分ほど走ると、対岸にかつての吊り橋の遺構が見えてきます。この吊り橋は、左岸にあった石灰石採掘場へ渡るため、昭和電工鹿瀬工場によって作業用として架けられた木造のトラス補剛吊橋でした。しかし、かつての洪水で橋は流失し、現在は左岸にコンクリート製の主塔のみが残されています。

下流には揚川ダムがあり、津川の町までは穏やかな水面に時折霧がたなびく幻想的な景色が広がります。現在、この付近は崖崩れの危険があるため、下流数キロにわたる旧国道は立ち入り禁止となっています。代わりに整備された新道は、渓谷沿いではなくトンネルが続くバイパスとなっており、残念ながら現在は阿賀野川随一の景勝地を通ることはできなくなっています。この道はメインルートではなくなってしまったので、今後も通行できるようにはならないのかもしれません。

Driving along the old National Route 49, which runs parallel to the Agano River, for about five minutes from Tsugawa toward the Oomaki district, you will see the remains of a former suspension bridge on the opposite bank. This suspension bridge was a wooden truss-reinforced suspension bridge built by Showa Denko Kasei Factory as a work bridge to cross to the limestone quarry on the left bank. However, the bridge was washed away in a flood, and now only the concrete main tower remains on the left bank.

Downstream is the Agekawa Dam, and the area around Tsugawa Town features a serene water surface occasionally shrouded in mist, creating a fantastical landscape. Currently, due to the risk of landslides, the old national highway spanning several kilometers downstream is off-limits. The newly constructed bypass, which runs through tunnels rather than along the gorge, unfortunately no longer passes through what was once the most scenic spot along the Agano River. Since this road is no longer the main route, it may not be possible to restore access in the future.
